Meghan Markle makes history as she guest edits British Vogue's September issue

Meghan Markle has made history once again – this time by becoming the first person to ever guest edit British Vogue’s iconic September issue.

The September issue, titled “Forces for Change”, will feature subjects that Meghan is extremely passionate about, such as race, female empowerment, and mental health

"These last seven months have been a rewarding process, curating and collaborating with Edward Enninful, British Vogue's Editor-in-Chief, to take the year's most read fashion issue and steer its focus to the values, causes and people making impact in the world today," Meghan said in a statement which was provided by the royal family.

"Through this lens, I hope you'll feel the strength of the collective in the diverse selection of women chosen for the cover as well as the team of support I called upon within the issue to help bring this to light.

"I hope readers feel as inspired as I do, by the “Forces for Change” they'll find within these pages."

The cover is particularly inspiring, as it features images of 15 "brilliant female changemakers who have had a laudable impact in recent times and who are set to reshape society in radical and positive ways in the future."

Some of the trailblazers on the “Forces for Change” cover include Orange Is the New Black star Laverne Cox, Gemma Chan, Salma Hayek, Jameela Jamil, and Yara Shahidi,

Mental health campaigner and model Adwoa Aboah also features, as does model and former refugee Adut Akech. Boxer Ramla Ali, Prime Minister of New Zealand Jacinda Ardern, diversity advocate and lecturer Sinead Burke, author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, and climate change campaigner Greta Thunberg are also among those who have been honored on the cover.

The Duchess of Sussex herself doesn’t appear on the cover – which is a tad disappointing – but we definitely understand why she and the team came to that decision…

"From the very beginning, we talked about the cover – whether she would be on it or not,” Edward Enninful said.

“In the end, she felt that it would be in some ways a 'boastful' thing to do for this particular project. She wanted, instead, to focus on the women she admires."

Even though we would have loved to have seen her on the cover, it makes perfect sense to us. Isn’t this one of the many reasons we love her?
