A spokesperson for The Duchess and Prince Harry expressed that Meghan visited the site as a mother and wanted to offer her support to the community.
Photos were taken showing Meghan placing a white rose bouquet in front of a memorial outside the Uvalde County Courthouse. The Duchess tried to keep a low profile wearing a plain t-shirt, blue jeans, sneakers, and a baseball cap.
Buzzfeed News reported that Meghan also stopped by a community center hosting a blood donation drive to drop off sandwiches, beverages, and desserts for the donors.
Gloria Contreras, a volunteer, told Buzzfeed News, "I had no idea who she was. But, she was carrying on a conversation like she and I had known each other for years. We talked about Texas and Uvalde and how it is to be in a small town and how everybody is so kind and warm-hearted and knows we know each other and stuff and how the faith is deep-rooted."
Another volunteer, Georjean Burnell, added, "she was just really sweet. She just walked in with her crew and started putting ice water in the bucket with us and laying out chips for the people who needed snacks before and after donating. It's funny; we didn't even know it was her until after she left, and now we're so sad. We thought she was our neighbor."
